OUR WINES

New Zealand's Marlborough region is world renowned for its unique style of Sauvignon Blanc. Tucked away in the south eastern corner, the Awatere Valley is developing a reputation for putting a new spin on an old favourite.

O:TU vintages are released a little later than other New Zealand producers because we believe it develops depth, creates structure and enhances the unique characteristics our region offers.

“Acidity is important but the wines need a little more fat, more flavours. I believe our wines have that difference. There's a lot of pleasure in drinking Sauvignon Blanc that has a little age.” – Jan Kux (O:TU Winemaker)

O:TU MARLBOROUGH SAUVIGNON BLANC

This bold Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc presents pungent aromas of sweet grass, nettles, blackcurrants and gooseberries, backed up by fresh zesty lime characters. The palate is light-bodied, which builds up and ends on a long, fine and appetizing mineral finish with undertones of ripe greens, gooseberry and currants. The acidity is very well integrated, complemented by the flinty mineral characters typical of the Awatere Valley.

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit 4.5 Stars. 90/100

"An intensely expressive Sauvignon Blanc, lifted bouquet shows ripe citrus, feijoa, capsicum and fresh herb characters, leading to a juicy and vibrant palate filled with attractive flavours. The wine shows fruit ricjness with a delightfully long, crisp finish."

 Raymond Chan, 17.5/20

"...This is very Awatere in expression. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the flavours of grassy, gooseberry fruit is up-front, mouthfilling and broad revealing some subtle secondary bean-like notes, the fruit growing to show a good core..."

O:TU BLEND 102 MARLBOROUGH SAUVIGNON BLANC

This striking Single-vineyard Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc entices with aromas of sweet grass, nettles, blackcurrant and gooseberries, underpinned with white peaches and lime characters. The flinty minerality typical of the Awatere Valley is complemented by a touch of talcum powder and very well integrated acidity. The palate is full bodied, finishing long with undertones of white peach, honey melon, gooseberry and currants with beguiling light exotic characteristics.

"...all the vibrant Marlborough-esque aromas come punching through - ripe tropical fruits of pineapple, sweet passion fruit. On the palate - dry, crisp and elegant with a wet stone and mineral quality followed by crisp red apple and sweet citrus flavors; some tropical too; a vegetal bell-pepper note; high acidity and an elegant edgyness.."

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit  93/100, 5 Stars

"Powerful yet beautifully poised, exhibiting perfumed aromas of peach, passionfruit, lime zest and capsicum on the nose, folloed by a concentrated palate that's focused and linear. Lovely intensity backed by crisp acidity. It's textural and finishes superbly long and delicately dry..."

"The 2012 vintage is an impressive debut. It was estate-grown in the lower Awatere Valley and based on 'the best grapes of the vintage'...very graceful, fleshy and deep, with vibrant grapefruit, peach and lime flavours, showing an almost honeyed richness, a fine thread of acidity, and a tight, dry (2.8 grams/litre of residual sugar), harmonious finish..."

Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier 4 Stars

" Lots of juicy peach, apple and tropical fruit suggestions, vibrant and forceful; sweet herbs and a wet stone mineral layer; youthful, fresh and electric. On the palate - just dry with an immediate layer of spicy acidity, flavors of peaches and sweet citrus fruits, a touch of pineapple and moderate herbaceous flavors; medium+ acidity, balanced and well made with a moderate finish. What's not to like!"

O:TU PRESTIGE MARLBOROUGH SAUVIGNON BLANC

A complex Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with a distinctive Awatere Valley profile. Classical aromas of apples, melons, peaches and smoky notes are very reductive and constantly evolving with the wine. This wine has a rich, full-bodied palate with finely integrated wood giving it warmth and complexity. This wine will age gracefully over the next ten years, with a more colourful expression emerging.

"...Medium-sweet and light-bodied, the palate is elegantly concentrated with lusciously rich flavours of green stonefruit essence, tropical fruits and lime marmalade, detailed with nutty and piquant herbal elements.  The mouthfeel balances a sense of unctuousness with very fine textures and crisp, enlivening acidity.  This has a deeply packed core and line which carries the concentrated gooseberry and greengage essence flavours to a long, lingering ripe flavoured, but refreshing finish...."

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, 4.5 Stars

"An elegantly sweet wine, the lifted bouquet shows apricot, mango, citrus and herbaceous characters with subtle infusion of nutty complexity. The palate is succulent and expressive with gentle sweetness, backed by refreshing acidity, leading to a lingering juicy finish. The wine offers fruit power and intensity as well as weight and structure, making it a lovely partner to mildly sweet desserts. "

Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, 4.5 Stars

"Intriguing dessert wine in a moderately sweet style with honeyed botrytis adding an extra dimension to ripe Sauvignon Blanc flavours. The wine has a seasoning of spicy (French?) oak that works beautifully by adding to rather than distracting from the varietal/botrytis flavours and introducing an influence of drying tannins that helps restrain sweetness. A great aperitif wine - try it with blue cheese.
